Business Intelligence tools such as (BI) allows you (or a Business Analyst) to create various business reports or charts (3D Bar graph, Pie chart, funnel chart etc ). the set of reports on a page is commonly known as Business Dashboards, these are real time reports , that means unlike reports on excel sheets or a web page which are static in nature , these graphs change as the input changes without you refreshing the web browsers. the reports are smart enough and come up with event handling capabilities where you can define various conditions such as if the stock of a particular item falls below some level raise a purchase order , or send a mail or send an automated sms or invoke some other service.
These reports are capable of reading from multiple input sources such as database, webservices, applications etc. and the reports can be presented on various devices such as web browser, mobile browser, ipads, iphone etc and the business analyst can not only view the reports but also can drill down to the details of these reports. different software vendors come up with different reporting tools each having a set of different features and functions.
What it means to you: more job opportunities in this area as companies are depending more on Business Intelligence reports to manage their business rather doing things manually. simple example is if you go to Big Bazaar for shopping as soon as an items stock reduces , new orders are automatically placed, and order levels are also intelligently placed on the number of units sold per month / week ... its a huge demanding area and you can have a great career if you plan to look into details of this ...
